Cebu City – The Bureau of Customs Sub-port of Mactan intercepted approximately Fifteen (15) Kilograms of Dried Seahorses from two Chinese nationals, who were bound for Macau, last 08 November 2019 (Friday).
The goods were spotted during an x-ray examination conducted by Mr. Frannies A. Candado, Security Screening Officer, at the Office of Transportation Security (OTS) Inline Checking Area, MCIA.
A physical examination was then conducted by Acting Customs Examiner Pablito B. Geraldez, CIIS Officer-in-Charge Franz Angelo Munoz and ESS-CPD SAII Enrico P. Tamayo, in the presence of Mr. Rene P. Amoroto, Fishery Quarantine Officer, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
The dried seahorses were confiscated for violation of the provisions of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, in relation to Republic Act No. 8550 or “The Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998”.
The confiscated Dried Seahorses were issued a Receipt of Confiscation.
The Dried Seahorses as well as the two Chinese nationals were taken into custody by the authorities of the BFAR Region VII for further investigation (PR)
