Cebu City – The three mayors of the Highly Urbanized Cities in Cebu thanked Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go for his appeal to the executive branch to extend a one-time ‘Bayanihan’ financial assistance to cities and municipalities in the country.

The Bayanihan financial assistance will help ease the socio-economic impact of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to indigents and marginalized sectors.

During a teleconference interview through the “Mugstoria Ta!” program, Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Assistant Secretary asked Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella, Mandaue Mayor Jonas Cortes, and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan about their reaction of the appeal made by the Senator.

The three agreed with the Senator, and thanked him for always considering the people at the grassroots level; and the local government units who are the front liners, which are the agencies of government who could immediately address the needs of the most vulnerable sectors in society.

Mayor Labella on his part said that of all the senators in the country, Senator Bong Go is the most visible in Cebu because of his assistance to the fire victims.

“Pasalamat kay mi ni Senator Bong Go, dako kaayo nakong pasalamat kay si Senator Bong Go among the many senators siya gyud ang naa dinhi permi. Kada naa’y masunog, the day after or two days after naa si Senator Bong Go naghatag sa iyahang ayuda,” said Mayor Labella.

He added that the Senator has been very helpful to the Cebuanos with its Malasakit Center program and now, the plan of extending financial assistance through the ‘Bayanihan’ financial assistance.

Mandaue City Mayor Cortes also shared the same sentiments as Mayor Labella, “Mapasalamaton kay me sa plano sa atong senador, kaning Bayanihan nga hinabang nga gikan sa national. Sama sa Cebu City, ang Mandaue usab nga kada sunog, in a matter of few days ang atong pinanggan Senador naa gyud dayon, manghatag og assistance, hinabang ngadto sa mga fire victims. Makita nato og unsang klase nga serbisyo nga iyang gisaad iyang gituman.”

Mayor Cortes also added that this is the time where Cebuanos should help each other in this fight against Covid-19.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Chan also thanked the Senator for always extending his ‘Malasakit’ to the Filipino people especially now amidst this crisis.

In his latest statement Go also reminded local government units to make sure that the assistance that the National Government is extending reaches to those who are in need especially the poorest of the poor, vulnerable sector and displaced workers.

(PR)
