CLDF donates 500 sacks of rice to Bicol Region

Cebu City – The Cristina Lee Dino Foundation (CLDF), through the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV), donated 500 sacks of rice to the people of the Bicol Region who were affected by the devastation of Super Typhoon Rolly.

This donation was among those received by the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 through their Food Bank On Wheels donation drive as part of the Typhoon Rolly response efforts.

On Wednesday, November 4, the initial donations were loaded on BRP Pangasinan PS31 of the Philippine Navy, whose area of responsibility is Southern Luzon. The said vessel is scheduled to return to Southern Luzon.

Commander Roldydin Cris Sergio, commanding officer of BRP Pangasinan PS31, contacted PRO 7 regional director Police Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro to inquire if the latter has donations the vessel could bring when they return to Region V.

BRP Pangasinan PS31 took shelter in Cebu at the height of Super Typhoon Rolly last week.

Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Secretary Michael Lloyd Dino revealed that when RD Ferro called him for donations, the CLDF immediately donated 500 sacks of rice at 25 kilos each.

“We will provide PRO 7 with whatever they need. We have initially promised to take care of the logistics of his men going to Region 5 including the wing vans that will be used to store all the donations they are now collecting,” said Secretary Dino.

The Secretary added that a double burden is being faced by the people affected by the said typhoon especially now that we are still facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Our economy here in the Visayas is slowly reviving and I think most of the people now have slowly recovered in the new normal. A little help through donations would mean so much to the affected families. Let us help and donate,” added Secretary Dino.

RD Ferro revealed that a total of P1.3 million worth of goods were initially sent to the Bicol Region through the said vessel.

The donations included sacks of rice, canned goods, bottled water, and portable gas stoves. The bulk of the said donations came from CLDF, said, RD Ferro.

Secretary Dino thanked RD Ferro for his relief efforts for Bicol Region and promised full support in their initiative.

He also urged the private sector to donate basic needs to PRO 7 so that it will be sent to the affected families.

The Secretary also thanked President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Bong Go who continuously worked hard in addressing the needs of the typhoon victims amidst the pandemic.

Present also during the loading of donations is Commander Emmanuel Eugenio Bello, Deputy Commander of Naval Forces Central (NAVFORCEN).
